Not just Yugoslav AF?

[edit]

I came to this page looking for the Messerschmitt Bf 109, which is listed as 'Germany', displays serial '9663', and is ex-Bulgarian AF. But Germany relates to the country of manufacture (identified as 'origin'). The question that is unanswered is whose markings is it wearing? To what does the serial '9663' apply? In this case it happens to be Yugoslav Air Force, which is of course the main theme of the whole museum, but that does not apply in every case, and these details are missing.

The French built Nieuport XI C.1 (Replica) carries the registration '12', but there is nothing to say that this serial, and the other markings applied to this aircraft, are in fact French Air Force.

The aircraft from United Kingdom all seem to display RAF serials, but the roundels are Yugoslav, and although most of them carried Yugoslav AF serials at some stage in their lives, this is not how they are displayed. The Spitfire has a particularly murky history! And the NA T-6 Texan is built in the USA, but wears 'FT152', which I reckon is an ex-RAF serial. Something should be added to explain these anomalies.

The tables themselves could be improved, but this is not something I am particularly gifted in. The aircraft are not in alphabetical order, nor by country of origin. The heading 'Registration' more often applies to military serials, and the heading 'serial number' should be either MSN or Construction number 'c/n'. It is difficult enough for those of us who know the difference, but for those who rarely come across these details, it must be near impossible to fathom.

Oh, yes - in the picture gallery, the Junkers 52 is actually a French-built Amiot AAC.1 Toucan, which is a licensed produced Ju-52.

Once again, I am up to my neck with edits elsewhere, so feel free to use this information to improve the article, or comment here for when I return at some future date. WendlingCrusader (talk) 19:20, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
