the benefit of agony
[edit]In Arabic literature, there is a very good line of a poem that shows this fact:
الضد يظهر حسنه الضد وبضدها تتميز الأشياء The opposite's advantage (of sth) is significantly shown by its opposite And by their opposite, things are distinguished
This means, people may decide to like or dislike something when they know the advantages or disadvantages of it's opposite. For example: If you are watching two football teams playing in a stadium, you may admire one of them because they perform well.
