Dumbledore?
[edit]Not sure if the generalization of "wizard=absent-minded professor" is so true. Dumbledore was whimsical but very in control, and the trope I have been raised to go with wizards is more of an all-knowing wise man. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.172.143.93 (talk) 16:44, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

[edit]whats the saying about absent minded professors? -something like "looks at the stars but falls down the well". perhaps it could be addedSpencerk 19:25, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
According to the article on Thales, he died while watching a sport event? But I agree that the well storyis funnier. --Eribro 12:01, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
Mad Scientist
[edit]It mentions Mad Scientists as often being malevent, and that being one of the main distinctions between them. This is wrong. I say Absent-minded Professor is a TYPE of Mad Scientist. The main characterist. The main defining charactist of a Mad Scientist being that they are not normal in their heads. I would love to see a response on this. I wil also be asking in the Mad Scientist talk page about it as well. Corrupt one (talk) 23:05, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
Autism connections?
[edit]Many of the traits of the "absent minded professor" are similar to those of a mildly autistic person (intense focus on a single subject, &c.). I'm being dangerously generalistic here, but might there be a connection? --Mickel (talk) 08:14, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
yes, Aspergers syndrome is kind of what an absent minded professor is! does anyone else think it could be a good idea to mention it in this article? 121.72.250.32 (talk) 03:09, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
- Only if you have a reliable source saying so. Lova Falk talk 17:24, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
I suppose that both a mildy autistic person and a person with schizophrenic/schizotypal/schizoid tendencies will have an "absent-minded professor" behavior (in the first case because of the "intense focus on a single subject", in the second because of the "preocupation with fantasy and introspection" and similar symptoms) probably with the autistics tending to the more exprimental detail-oriented fields, and schizo- to the more theoretical/abstract fields). But all of that will be "original research"--194.38.144.2 (talk) 16:14, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

[edit]What is this nonsense? I was about to delete it, but it looks like someone was earnestly trying to contribute.--Stihdjia (talk) 15:27, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
- I deleted this example. It is dubious and unsourced. Lova Falk talk 17:27, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
adding stpd/ schizophrenia/ szpd to see also?
[edit]I'm wondering if it'd be appropriate to add links to the pages for schizotypal PD / schizophrenia and/ or schizoid PD in the see also section, given there is also ADHD and autism there.
Would i need to find some sources to cite/ reference?
I'm going to link them in the meantime as i consider it relevant information, and I don't want to wait a long time for response. Feel free to remove. Schizotypewriter (talk) 10:33, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
Virus from 3 idiot...
[edit]Virus from 3 Idiots and scientist from Back to the future film can we include in the list pop culture depiction? Rock Stone Gold Castle (talk) 14:37, 6 March 2023 (UTC)
- Doc Brown is an obviously intentional example. But Virus is the opposite of a creative eccentric! —Tamfang (talk) 19:57, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
