ITC Category correction

[edit]

This is not an ITC Entertainment production. The Avengers was produced by Associated British Corporation.

Episode was cut for uk tx.

[edit]

The article says this episode was not altered on first uk tx's this is incorrect, the whipping scene was cut to only one crack of the whip, there are more whip strokes in the original edit, there is a mention from the period on the Deadline website The Stage and Television 3rd March 1966 and in Dave Rogers Book The Ultimate Avengers page 161, which, basically, states that Rediffusion, who along with Southern TV and Anglia were already showing prints cut to 46 mins 15 seconds, had demanded cuts to the whipping scene in A Touch of Brimstone, or a 9pm tx for the episode in the London region, and a quote from Clemens from the Channel 4 Without Walls Avengers documentary from 1991/92 - thus "The scene where Diana Rigg is attacked four times by a man weilding a whip had to be cut down to one crack of the Whip" and further having checked the inline citation for the claim that the episode was uncut, it states the whipping scene was cut or edited, and the scene was not seen uncut until the A & E release in the USA. Someone should have read the cited article more closely!!!!! 81.111.127.132 (talk) 00:26, 12 November 2010 (UTC) 81.111.127.132 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 23:51, 11 November 2010 (UTC).[reply]

Synopsis

[edit]

I'm quite sure that the fictitious place of the ribbon-cutting was the "International Hall of Friendship," and not the "International Friendship Club." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.190.100.165 (talk) 20:44, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Opening

[edit]

"The Avengers Forever and Mrs Peel - We're Needed web-sites, and the Canal-Plus digitally remastered DVD credit the episode director as James Hill (A Study in Terror and Born Free) and the writer as Brian Clemens." ??? How incompetent can people be? Write a damned citation reference and keep that junk out of the main text. I'd make the change, but you don't provide any links or information to do so. john k (talk) 16:55, 20 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'll be starting the review soon :) Daß Wölf 10:34, 27 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for taking this much time. Excellent work on the article, especially finding sources for the Reception and influences section! There are only a few issues remaining, mostly regarding the prose. Daß Wölf 00:06, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@BennyOnTheLoose: Sorry, just realised I forgot to ping you! Daß Wölf 10:33, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

First round

[edit]
GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose, spelling, and grammar): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (reference section): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR): d (copyvio and plagiarism):
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images and other media, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free content have non-free use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
  • The Diana Rigg photo should have an |alt= tag for screen readers. See WP:ALT for advice on how to write it.
  • Consider linking the Hellfire Club in the lead. While the sentence talks about the fictional club, it seems it was meant (in-universe) to be the successor of the historical ones, so linking seems appropriate to me.
  • Shouldn't "Lumiere pictures" be in Title Case?
  • "and withe the magnificent OTT [over the top] grandeur of Wyngarde" -- withe → with?
  • "The episode contained visual reference to sado-masochistic pornography, and featured Rigg wearing a kinky "Queen of Sin" costume (which she designed herself)." -- suggest: "costume, which she designed herself", as the clause is repeated verbatim with the parentheses below.
  • Likewise, "Hellfire Club member Jason Wyngarde's name and likeness is based on Peter Wyngarde (who was later known for the role of Jason King)." can be reworded without the parentheses. The sentence is relatively short and works fine without them.

Many thanks for taking on the review and for your constructive suggestions, Daß Wölf. Let me know about anything else that needs to be done. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk)

@BennyOnTheLoose: You're welcome and thanks for making the changes I suggested. I've added only two new comments above; that's all I can think of. Daß Wölf 10:03, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Daß Wölf: Thanks again. Hopefully I've dealt with those. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 10:49, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
