I believe that the monument this article is about has possibly been incorrectly titled by various sources for some time now. From a brief look at newspaper stories on the day of its unveiling in 1924, there is no reference whatsoever to the '24th East Surrey Division War Memorial'. Instead, every article I found referred to the monument as the '24th Division War Memorial'. One article from the Surrey Mirror (10/10/1924, 'The 24th Division', p4) seems to indicate that regiments from both West and East Surrey were represented in the Division, and the Wikipedia article on the 24th Division shows that a whole host of regiments from all across the country were part of the 24th Division during World War I. Sources that appear to be perpetuating the 'East Surrey' portion of the name include Historic England and the IWM.
Could someone else please verify these findings and if corroborated, advise me as to how to go about changing the article's title? Thank you. Exceat (talk) 18:23, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ham II: Indeed, well deduced. It took them a while to make the change, as I suspect some process has to occur behind the scenes at the local level inside HE prior to name amendments, but yes the news clippings I sent them paid off in the end. Thank you for the move! Exceat (talk) 23:35, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
