Erroneous cut and paste content
[edit]- This article is the result of a cut and paste from 2022 Summer Youth Olympics, so the history and attribution have been lost. Furthermore the article is grossly in error because of this global replacement of 2022 by 2026, which is wrong in most places. Many of the references are broken, and those that work don't say what the article claims they say. Needs a substantial clean up. --David Biddulph (talk) 22:25, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
- I have placed a request at the top of 2026 Summer Youth Olympics as it was a cut and past move from 2022 Summer Youth Olympics by another editor. When I saw what had happened I had requested that 2022 Summer Youth Olympics be moved to 2026 Summer Youth Olympics so that the history and attribution would be maintained, and then I could make the appropriate changes in the new position, but the admin who responded didn't do that, and talked of a history merge which is why I placed the history merge request, which has not yet been responded to. When I look at it further I see that the situation is a total mess. The content of 2026 Summer Youth Olympics is grossly in error because of this global replacement of 2022 by 2026 which is wrong in most places. Many of the references are broken, and those that work don't say what the editor said they say. I'll leave expert admins to decide what to do, but it looks as if it would be best to put everything back to as it was before User:Dinnerbrone's edits, then the appropriate changes can be made correctly. --David Biddulph (talk) 22:15, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
- @David Biddulph, Dinnerbrone, Nnadigoodluck, and Dwyer.j1: The short answer here would have been " Not done WP:Parallel histories", but I will look closer at what has happened. At 15:09, 15 July 2020 Dinnerbrone started 2026 Summer Youth Olympics as a history fork from 2022 Summer Youth Olympics. The main work done on 2026 Summer Youth Olympics after that seems to be several page moves, and this edit changing dates from 2022 to 2026 and adding a paragraph about the effects on the event of the Covid-19 pandemic. A look at Special:Contributions/Dwyer.j1 shows that when User:Dwyer.j1 snipped sections out of 2022 Summer Youth Olympics between 19:58, 15 July 2020 and 20:01, 15 July 2020, he did not move the removed text to anywhere in Wikipedia; he may have moved it to a working area on his own computer. As User:David Biddulph has now reverted User:Dwyer.j1's section-snipping, I have redirected 2026 Summer Youth Olympics to 2022 Summer Youth Olympics, awaiting updating by someone who knows more that me about the Summer Youth Olympics. - @David Biddulph, Dinnerbrone, Nnadigoodluck, and Dwyer.j1: At 21:16, 16 July 2020 User:2605:e000:131a:67a:98a3:7fa4:f047:377e reverted that redirection. But see Special:Contributions/2605:e000:131a:67a:98a3:7fa4:f047:377e. His only other edit is on a page 2022 Special Olympics World Winter Games. If 2022 Summer Youth Olympics and 2026 Summer Youth Olympics will be distinct events, it seems that we have a cut-and-paste move problem which I have come across before :: If there is a series of events, say a series of athletics contests, one each year, between University X and University Y :: and if the article about each contest is made by modifying the article about the previous contest, then there must be a cut-and-paste event to start the article about each contest, and those cut-and-paste events must stay unrepaired (but perhaps described in a history paragraph in its talk page), if there is to be a separate Wikipedia article about each contest. - @ViperSnake151: For this history-merge request, see this discussion which is already happening here. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 04:46, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
