"Readding notability tag. While tragic, this article is built like its a news article and its content concerning the 5 fatalities will most likely not make international news or survive beyond a simple newscycle, failingWP:CONTINUEDCOVERAGEi would advise someone removes that tag if there is continued coverage beyond the simple news cycle"
The thing that I think gives notablity to this accident isn't much the number of fatalities, but the fact that it is a shootdown of a commercial airliner SignorPignolini (talk) 19:28, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not civillian it was a cargo flight. We dont know if the 5 crew on board that died in the crash were even Sudanese or a different nationality. Even if they were a different nationallity i highly doubt this will cause any international dispute. And hey, if it does then we can remove the tag and i'll positively contribute to the article. @SignorPignoliniLolzer3k19:42, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
New Way Cargo Airlines have said the aircraft no longer belonged to them, and the RSF claim it was operated by the Sudanese military. If both those claims are true, then this is just a run-of-the-mill military shootdown with no particular grounds for notability. If, on the other hand, it really was a shootdown of a civilian cargo flight, that's a different matter. We need to wait until the status of those claims can be cleared up. I think we should wait for one of those contrasting sources to be confirmed or denied. Now on Aviation Safety Network the plane is marked as operated by the Sudanese Government/Air Force, Avherald marks it as an unknown Ilyushin Il-76 but since it's still on their database the still consider it a civilian plane, while other sorces continue to say it's a plane of New Way Cargo. I created the article because initially it was reported as a shootdown of a civilian cargo aircraft, but if it's confirmed to be a military plane I think this article can be deleted. Agreed here, adding the notability tag was definetly a WP:RAPID move. Definetly should have waited for a week or two until the aircraft owner and type of flight were confirmed. We'll see in time. Lolzer3k14:35, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
