Hello, I am planning on reviewing this article for GA Status, over the next couple of days. Thank you for nominating the article for GA status. I hope I will learn some new information, and that my feedback is helpful.
If nominators or editors could refrain from updating the particular section that I am updating until it is complete, I would appreciate it to remove a edit conflict. Please address concerns in the section that has been completed above (If I've raised concerns up to references, feel free to comment on things like the lede.)
I generally provide an overview of things I read through the article on a first glance. Then do a thorough sweep of the article after the feedback is addressed. After this, I will present the pass/failure. I may use strikethrough tags when concerns are met. Even if something is obvious why my concern is met, please leave a message as courtesy.
Best of luck! you can also use the {{done}} tag to state when something is addressed. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs)
Please let me know after the review is done, if you were happy with the review! Obviously this is regarding the article's quality, however, I want to be happy and civil to all, so let me know if I have done a good job, regardless of the article's outcome.

[edit]Lede
[edit]- the word "world" in its name - probably doesn't need "word" Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:01, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- Amended. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 10:20, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- Could we add the dates to the lede? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:01, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- Added. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 10:20, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- Probably worth mentioning how the knockout worked - byes for three players and one playoff Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:01, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- The Billiard Player and press sources all seem to talk about "Heat 1" (Smith v Stanbury) and "Heat 2" (Davis v Newman) without explicitly stating that those matches are effectively different rounds. I've used a phrasing that reflects sources (which don't use the word "bye") - let me know what you think. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 10:20, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
General
[edit]- I feel like the background could probably do with a little esplaination to the format. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:14, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- Added some details in Summary, rather than Background, as the closing date for entries was 31 December 1934 and therefore the scheduling and draw happened after the unoffical world championship. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 11:48, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- Link bye. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:14, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- Link frame Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:14, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- Already linked at "An 81-frame snooker match" BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 10:26, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- The match was reported[according to whom?]Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:14, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- Added mention of the sources inline. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 10:26, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- The players and referee agreed in advance that, contrary to the official rules of the game, they would nominate a colour ball being played for only if there might be some doubt, rather than in every case - probably worth clarifying that this is no longer part of the rules. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:14, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- Added footnote. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 11:48, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- In frame 24, a "dead" frame, Davis made a break of 110 winning the frame 135–0. - this probably could do with more fanfare in prose as the first century. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:14, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- Added a mention. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 11:48, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- Snooker historian Clive Everton later claimed that the championship record break of 110 "established the [world snooker championship] as a paying proposition." - I'm not sure what is being said, nor why it's in the final section. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:14, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- Added this para into a separate section, and expanded that sentence a bit. Strangely, even though attendances and public interest seem to have been higher than the preceding years, I found less press coverage than in earlier years. The correspondent for the Sunday Mirror turned up for the final only be find it was "house full" and he couldn't get in. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 11:48, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- Not sure we need flags for the century breaks section Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:14, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- Removed. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 10:26, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks, Lee Vilenski, I've responded to all the points above. Let me know if naything else is required. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 11:51, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
Review meta comments
[edit]- I'll begin the review as soon as I can! If you fancy returning the favour, I have a list of nominations for review at WP:GAN and WP:FAC, respectively. I'd be very grateful if you were to complete one of these if you get time. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:47, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
