Royal Engineers or Blackheath?
[edit]There appears to be a slight contradiction... the Royal Engineers article states that Charles Arthur Crompton and Charles Sherrard were representives of The Army/Royal Engineers, whereas the players' own articles and the 1870–71 Home Nations rugby union matches article states that they were representatives of Blackheath F.C.. The 1871–72 Home Nations rugby union matches article (Francis d'Aguilar, & Charles Sherrard of England, and Frederick T. Maxwell, & Henry Renny-Tailyour of Scotland), and 1873–74 Home Nations rugby union matches article (William Stafford of England), specifically identify the rugby footballers representing The Royal Engineers rather than a club side. Did Charles Arthur Crompton and Charles Sherrard play for The Royal Engineers or Blackheath, or both? Best Regards. DynamoDegsy (talk) 11:01, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Article name
[edit]I was bold and moved this article to 1871 England versus Scotland rugby union match from 1870–71 Home Nations rugby union matches. The only reason for the previous name was consistency with other articles. However it's a pretty terrible name for this one — which is about a single match between England and Scotland! I've fixed most of the redirects but there are still a few more to do. Hopefully I got most of the important ones. - Shudde talk 02:06, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
One try or two?
[edit]Seems some sources credit Scotland with two tries, others (mainly English) with one. Seems the try that Scotland didn't convert is disputed. Are there any neutral reliable sources that can give us some sort of confirmation either way? - Shudde talk 02:38, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
- I've yet to see any sources in print that denine the second try: that being the one scored by Cross. John Griffiths has always included it in his books, but I'd be happy to investigate any disputed material. FruitMonkey (talk) 12:25, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
- Well the RFU website says a try a piece, and the BBC article I found does mention a dispute over the second Scottish try. Whatever the official result, it seems there was some sort of dispute. - Shudde talk 23:41, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
Which was the home team?
[edit]At the risk of being a pain, shouldn't this page be renamed "1871 Scotland versus England rugby union match"? Kim Traynor | Talk 20:27, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
- Ohhhh... Good spot. Yes it should IMO. FruitMonkey (talk) 20:35, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
- I've moved the page to rename in line with normal convention and amended links to it. Kim Traynor | Talk 22:32, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah sorry that was my fault! I forgot about the convention of the first name being the home team, and instead placed them alphabetically. Great spot, and thanks for moving the article. - Shudde talk 10:04, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
