Apologies for not starting a discussion on this sooner – I thought the case for the merge was straightforward, and since no one objected, got on with merging; however there isn't (to my knowledge) a template indicating that a merge is in progress, so I left the usual ones be. My plan is to continue working my way through 10th century in poetry and adding the poets and poems I can find sources for to 10th century in literature, then work through 900s in poetry, 910s in poetry, etc. (which can be redirected to the literature article when their contents are duplicated). I think 10th century in literature has always included poets and their works, because literature necessarily includes poetry. In medieval literature especially, the lines are somewhat blurred – the most historically significant works of certain cultures' literature are often poetry, meaning that if the literature article were to miss, for example, Beowulf, it would give the reader a flawed sense of the literature of the period. If this article grows to the point where WP:SIZESPLIT applies (and I don't think it will), then I'd suggest splitting along geographical lines – 10th century in Japanese poetry, 10th century in Arabic literature, etc. – rather than along a false literature/poetry dichotomy. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 16:23, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
