Counter-attack
[edit]On February 25, 1965, during the Indonesia–Malaysia Confrontation, an ambush occurred in Kota Tinggi, Johor, 2nd Battalion. A group of Indonesian soldiers ambushed a platoon of 25 soldiers from 2 SIR, resulting in eight fatalities and five injuries.[5]
In retaliation, on February 28, 1965, under the leadership of Lieutenant Daljeet Singh, the Malaysian military launched a counter-operation that successfully killed 18 Indonesian guerrillas and captured eleven others.[6] The captured guerrillas claimed they had been misled by their leaders, who promised that the Malay people would welcome them and provide guidance. Their mission was to establish bases and recruit local support to form the Malayan National Liberation Army (MNLA) to help free the country from British colonial rule.[7] [8] This was confirmed through leaflets and maps seized from the guerrillas, along with testimony from Malaysian Chinese who were also captured.
