The Silawat, also known as Sangtarash (both lit. 'stonemason'), are a Subcaste of Khatik community from the Madhya Pradesh and Marwar region of the state of Rajasthan in India.[citation needed] They are also present in the province of Sindh in Pakistan karachi and hyderabad too,[1] where they have different casts too
Distribution
[edit]In Sindh, the Silawat are concentrated in the cities of Karachi and Hyderabad. The city of Hyderabad is a particular stronghold of this community.[1][page needed] Muhammad Hashim Gazdar, a former Mayor of Karachi belonged to the Silawat community.[2][dead link ]
