Shehu V Government

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mehmet Shehu was the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the People's Republic of Albania from 1954 to 1981

.

The Shehu V Cabinet was the government of the People's Republic of Albania formed on November 23, 1970 by Prime Minister Mehmet Shehu. It replaced the Shehu IV Cabinet and remained in office until October 29, 1974, whereupon it was succeeded by the Shehu VI Cabinet.

The government reshuffle followed the 1970 parliamentary elections. With one exception, all ministers already belonged to the previous cabinet: Haki Toska was replaced by Xhafer Spahiu. Toska was subsequently secretary of the Central Committee until November 1976.

In 1973 Myqerem Fuga joined as Minister of Light and Food Industry. The only other change during these four years involved the long-time Defense Minister Beqir Balluku was relieved of all his positions on July 10, 1974. Balluku had publicly stated that he assessed the threat situation differently than Hoxha.[1] He was arrested along with two other high-ranking military officers for attempting a military coup. He was sentenced to death and executed on November 5, 1974.
