Rajat Kumar Dey (born 19 December 1991), known by his stage name Ron Raj, is an Indian film director, writer, editor and screenwriter, known for his works in Bengali cinema. His first collaboration with veteran actor Ritwick Chakraborty brought him into the limelight. His first feature independent periodical crime drama film Porichoy Gupta Unreleased (Tale of the Identity), was a critical and commercial success, where he wrote the screenwriting with Chakraborty in mind. Early life
[edit]Ron was born on 19 June 1991 and brought up in Madarat village of Baruipur in South 24 Parganas district near Kolkata to Sanjit Kumar Dey and Uma Dey. His father was an executive of Burn Standard Company Limited who worked as a Supervisor. His mother was a housewife; she would later work as a worker for Asha. He has a brother, Arijit, a Bio-tech Engineer and a younger sister, swagata, a Basketball Coach. His nickname is Babusona.[6]
Career
[edit]His debut film as director is porichai gupta Ron conceived the idea for his first feature, Porichoy Gupta (2020), which he screenwrote, directed, partially photographed and edited. None of us can go outside of society and relationships; he thinks if we look at reality, none of us likes to bring our identity forward.[4][7]
Porichoy Gupta’s[8][9] success afforded ron the opportunity to make Se to aj o bojhena (2024), which became his breakthrough film.
