Robson Matheus Tomé de Araújo Benegas (born 18 May 2002) is a Bolivian footballer who plays as a midfielder for Club Always Ready and the Bolivia national football team.[1]

Early and personal life

[edit]

He was born in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. He has dual Brazilian and Bolivian nationality due to having a Bolivian mother and Brazilian father. He moved to Brazil at 10 years-old and started playing for Corinthians after which he went to Portuguesa. He was playing in the youth teams of Palmeiras prior to being signed by Cruzeiro for their under-20 side in June 2021, when he was 19 years-old. When he was playing in Brazil he went by the nickname 'Bolivia'.[2]

Club career

[edit]

In December 2022, he signed for Club Always Ready.[3] He made his senior league debut for Always Ready on 17 February 2024 against Universitario de Vinto.[4]

In April 2024 he reported a rejected spot-fixing offer he refused to deliberately earn a booking during a Copa Sudamericana tie against Defensa y Justicia. He said that an initial offer of $5000 was doubled to $10,000 after he initially refused. The call was from a Paraguayan number.[5][6]

International career

[edit]

In 2019, he was called up to the Bolivia U17 side whilst he was in the youth academy at SE Palmeiras.[7] He was called up to the Bolivia national football team for their March 2024 friendly matches.[8] He made his senior debut on 25 March 2024 against Andorra.[9][10]
