Raaj Kumar Anand is an Indian politician from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he is also a businessman and is known for his public service. He began his political journey with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Anand previously served as the MLA from the Patel Nagar assembly constituency and later joined the Delhi Cabinet. His wife, Mrs. Veena Anand, has served as the MLA from Patel Nagar in 2013. Raaj Kumar Anand has also contested the 2024 Indian general election.[1][2]
Biography
[edit]Raaj Kumar Anand was born on 14 September 1966.[3] He holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from Bundelkhand University.[4] In 2011, Anand joined the Anna Hazare-led India Against Corruption Movement and became one of the early members of the AAP in 2012. Known as a prominent Dalit leader, he served as the MLA from Patel Nagar after winning the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections.[5][6][7] In November 2022, he was inducted into the Delhi Cabinet, where he managed key portfolios such as Social Welfare, SC & ST, Gurudwara Elections, and the Registrar of Cooperative Societies.[8][9] In April 2024, Anand resigned from AAP and the Delhi Cabinet, citing inadequate representation of Dalits within the party.[10][11][12] He contested the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections from New Delhi constituency against candidates like Bansuri Swaraj of BJP and Somnath Bharti of AAP.[13] He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in July 2024.[14][15]
