To Do

[edit]

@Nannadeem and Cuparsk: Salaam Alaykom. I restored the portal. As, you see many parts of it needs to be fixed. I tried to fix the DYK box, as I had already prepared a draft for it. What's your suggestion for other parts? Mhhossein (talk) 14:35, 26 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Walaykumussalam, I added on the religion browsebar, and added this page onto it. This is bound to get us more attention and help. I wonder what the response will be from the rest of the Muslim community. The next step obviously should be to fill in the blank boxes with whatever we can. Perhaps we can filter out the bad quality stuff later.--Cuparsk | ‏الحسين‎ 02:28, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Mhhossein: LOL, I have been trying to get Portal:Shia Islam/Selected article/Layout to work for at least an hour. Could you please add a template? In the meanwhile, we will have to stick to only words (no pics).--Cuparsk | ‏الحسين‎ 03:08, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have completed the selected articles portion. One significant difference I am noticing between this portal and others is the "Suggest/More Articles" footers. These need to be replace with "Archive/Nominations" and "More." --Cuparsk | ‏الحسين‎ 03:58, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Cuparsk:I'm doing my edits on this. Mhhossein (talk) 06:19, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Mhhossein , why is the biography box not showing the same footers as the featured article box? Also I think, the article on the Prophet needs to be moved to the biography section.

Template Required

[edit]

Could someone please add, or get someone to add, templates for things like selected articles and pictures? They are very important. Thanks --Cuparsk | ‏الحسين‎ 05:21, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Cuparsk:  Done. Same thing should be done for all of the sub pages.Mhhossein (talk) 06:33, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Will the same template be used on the other sections (ex:biography) as well?--Cuparsk | ‏الحسين‎ 07:51, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Mhhossein Also the DYK footer should be the same.--Cuparsk | ‏الحسين‎ 08:02, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Cuparsk:: I meant to do that! Thanks for reminding. Mhhossein (talk) 08:04, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Mhhossein: We need to move Ali and Muhammad from selected articles into the biographies section (which is now established), and replace them with articles.--Cuparsk | ‏الحسين‎ 08:17, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Selected bigraphy

[edit]

@Cuparsk: I'm doubtful whether it is good to have Imams mixed with other personalities in the 'selected biography' section. How about making a new Box for Imams (or the 14 infallibles). Mhhossein (talk) 10:57, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Mhhossein Yes, I suppose a different box for the 14 Infallibles (but only one at a time) would be be more appropriate and comprehensive. Maybe a different box for all Infallibles, including Prophets, would be appropriate. Does the title "Featured Infallible/Holy Figure" sound good?--Cuparsk | ‏الحسين‎ 13:18, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Selected Hadith

[edit]

I suggest to have a box dedicated to the hadith from Imams and the holy prophet. Mhhossein (talk) 18:19, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

File change proposal

[edit]

I propose change to this file placed at left side below. Wording should by Alayhis Salam instead of R.A

Specially for use at The Twelve Imams where name of all Imam is with A.S except first Imam. Nannadeem (talk) 18:49, 5 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Nannadeem: I agree. When it comes to shia pages we should use the correct phrase. Mhhossein (talk) 13:23, 6 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help in the portal

[edit]

@Mhhossein: Can I help in the portal? Saff V. (talk) 13:20, 13 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Saff V.: Salaam Alaykom, Happy to see your offer for help. You can help for sure. By the moment you should do something for Muharram month. Can you open a new box entitled "On this day" and show Husayn ibn Ali's movement towards Karbala? you can include other incidents in this box, too. Thanks Mhhossein (talk) 05:18, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Mhhossein: Ok. It is a good subject. I will complete.Saff V. (talk) 05:56, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Good steps. Nannadeem (talk) 06:05, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Mhhossein: I create new page for On this day section and added it's code in the portal page, but I can not see the sentences. Can you help me?Saff V. (talk) 06:20, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I'll do the job! Mhhossein (talk) 06:22, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You already did it! Mhhossein (talk) 06:32, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Saff V. for updating the "On this day" section. --Mhhossein (talk) 13:25, 19 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

On this day

[edit]

How is this section intended to work? Currently it's coded to display Portal:Shia Islam/On this day/1 only, whatever day it is. The software is capable of working out the current month and day in the Islamic calendar, so you could have one page per month or even one page per day. ({{#time:xmj xmF}} produces "30 Jumada al-awwal"). But setting up all those subpages would be a lot of work. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:11, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

According to what I suggested above, the section is going to follow the movement of Husayn ibn Ali's caravan towards Karbala, besides showing other important daily incidents. At the moment the box should be updated manually for at least the next 10 days up to the Day of Ashura. Anyway, how can it be automated for the rest of the year? Mhhossein (talk) 11:34, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Have a look at the "Today in literature" box at Portal:Literature. The coding there uses keywords to pick up the current month and current day-of-the-month. For example, today it is displaying Portal:Literature/Adil archive/October/17. This page was set up in 2006 and has automatically been displayed on October 17 of each year since.
Using only one subpage, Portal:Shia Islam/On this day/1, the portal relies on editors updating it every day, and their work is wasted in the sense that on 3 Muharram next year, an editor will have to re-create what was being displayed today. A different scheme could use subpages such as Portal:Shia Islam/On this day/3 Muharram, and so on, so that the portal can redisplay this year's content when the same date comes round again. Does that make sense? Would you like me to change the portal coding to use this scheme? -- John of Reading (talk) 12:16, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's a good idea! but there's a problem, in this portal we deal with incidents which are based on non-Gregorian calendar. For example, day of Ashura this year is not on the same day as last year! How can it be handled? Mhhossein (talk) 13:28, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As I said, someone has taught the underlying software how to do the date conversion. The code for the link would be [[Portal:Shia Islam/On this day/{{#time:xmj xmF}}]] which today displays as Portal:Shia Islam/On this day/30 Jumada al-awwal, but when you view this talk page tomorrow you'll see that the link has changed. -- John of Reading (talk) 14:59, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
John of Reading: Tha'ts interesting! As far as I understood, we have to create subpages for each day. Am I right? Mhhossein (talk) 18:15, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Mhhossein: That's right, you would eventually need to create one separate subpage for each date - 354 of them, if I've read Islamic calendar correctly. -- John of Reading (talk) 20:01, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, I'm the only active editor here, although Saff V. has shown willingness to help running the portal. These pages should be created gradually. I'll let you know by the time I'm ready for that. Mhhossein (talk) 04:50, 18 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
One of the problems is that there might be no noteworthy incident for some of the days! What should be done for this? Tnx. --Mhhossein talk 19:16, 17 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Mhhossein: Yes, I'm still around! With only a bit of extra coding, there could be a reader-friendly message when there is no daily subpage: "There's no 'On this day' yet for 3 Muharram but you could create it" -- John of Reading (talk) 19:55, 17 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Dear @John of Reading: I've just created the first sub-pages. See Portal:Shia Islam/On this day/Rabi' al-Thani, and Portal:Shia Islam/On this day/Rabi' al-Thani/1. What should be done next? Btw, I checked a source and unfortunately nearly half of the days of Rabi' al-Thani have no noteworthy incident in shia history! --Mhhossein talk 19:41, 18 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Mhhossein: I've had a go at adding the box to the portal page. See what you think! If you create the other 11 monthly pages, then at least the "View this month" link will always be blue. Feel free to adapt/remove/suggest changes to this coding, of course. -- John of Reading (talk) 20:06, 18 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@John of Reading: Thanks very much, but the OTD box does not show anything for today, i.e. 1 Rabi' al-thani, while I had created the subpage for Rabi' al-Thani. Also, "View this month" is not blue. --Mhhossein talk 03:20, 20 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I could resolve the problem! See the steps, plz: [1], [2] and [3]. My coding knowledge is very basic (near zero!) and I just followed your coding to find the problem. See, if I've done it correctly. --Mhhossein talk 03:30, 20 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good! Yes, I didn't put in enough squiggly brackets. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:02, 20 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@John of Reading: Thank you again, I've got another question. What if we want to have a mixture of events in both Greogorian calendar and non-Greogorian calendar? --Mhhossein talk 13:18, 20 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Mhhossein: I guess so. The box we've just added could be followed by another box headed "On this day: 20 December" with similar subpages and coding logic. -- John of Reading (talk) 13:30, 20 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In the news

[edit]

@Mhhossein Subject segment of the portal has become lengthy. Is tool of archives suitable to this segment? Nannadeem (talk) 09:27, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nannadeem: Let's ask if John of Reading has any ideas in this regard. Mhhossein (talk) 12:43, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! I don't think the usual archiving bots can help with this; you'll have to do it by hand. You could create Portal:Shia Islam/News/Archive, copy the older news items there, and delete them from Portal:Shia Islam/News. A single archive page will be enough for several years of news, I think. -- John of Reading (talk) 13:05, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@ John of Reading thanks for guide. Could you please do that for this portal segments. Nannadeem (talk) 13:43, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
 Done -- John of Reading (talk) 17:04, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@John of Reading Thanks. @Mhhossein Sorry I was unable and out for any job. Nannadeem (talk) 20:22, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
WA Bro Mhhossein. OK I will attempt (Teaching to my children I could not manage to read and write). Further Please help me by providing reference of a quote from our 3rd Imam "North seeks guidance from us". I assure you my services for this portal and appreciate your efforts and labour of reading and writing for a good cause. Thanks. Nannadeem (talk) 17:53, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Nannadeem: Thank you for accepting my request and I hope you could teach your children well. Regarding the hadith, I can help you better if you could provide a context for me. Mhhossein (talk) 18:04, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion

[edit]

In order to provide new contents to users of this portal, I suggest that selected text/quote from Nahj al-Balagha should be presented here by creating a segment with its title (1) Text from Nahj al-Balagha; or (2) Quotes from Nahj al-Balagha. Text should not be more than 5 lines (of normal font size). Nannadeem (talk) 06:20, 11 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nannadeem: Thanks for your good suggestion. But I think we'd better have those quotes in the 'selected quote' box, as we do for other Imams. --Mhhossein (talk) 07:12, 11 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I think you should reconsider. The Book in question is much more recognition and available in different languages. It has data available on-line in English and Arabic. To the best my knowledge some have submitted their dissertations for Ph.D. due to its info about Astronomy. This will also give new contents without much labor on our part. It may be placed above quotes portion/sector. Thanks Nannadeem (talk) 14:18, 11 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I don't doubt the importance of this book, but we have also holy books such as Qur'an and Al-Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya which are even more important. Let's ask sa.vakilian if he has any idea regarding your suggestion. Mhhossein (talk) 07:16, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Clarification: Mhhossein No comparison of Quran with any book, please. Nannadeem (talk) 09:57, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Nannadeem: Of course no book is comparable with Quran, but as you know they (Qur'an and Ahl al-Bayt) are thaqalayn. Mhhossein (talk) 10:12, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes bro. I could not convey my intention (so plz ignore). We should consult with those who are interested in this portal and those who want to gain something positive from this portal. In future we may design this portal for other books too (subject to availability of contributors). Thanks - Nannadeem (talk) 13:40, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of content

[edit]

Hey @Nouill:, could you please tell us what why you made this edit? Thanks. --Mhhossein talk 14:58, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I delete empty section. I don't think it is good to have empty section with red link in portal. --Nouill (talk) 01:48, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
But that removes the chance of their completion in future. --Mhhossein talk 07:57, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Mosque or shrine

[edit]

I have decided to edit Imam Reza shrine but I faced with another problem. Of course I don't know where is the best place to saying the problem. I hope here be the best place. Any way the place where Imam was buried in Arabic is called حرم that it's translation to English is not equal to Mosque. I think that we have to make a unique decision and change the name of All of such places to shrine. Some example, Imam Ali Mosque,Al-Kadhimiya Mosque,Al Abbas Mosque. Also I know that these pages are redirected to shrine, but generally is not better they have unique name with shrine or mosque? RegardsSaff V. (talk) 09:40, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Saff V.: I hope that this belated reply be useful for you. I think you can find your answer best in wp:name. AFAIK, at the first step you should see how the reliable sources refer to such places. --Mhhossein talk 19:00, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Where a shrine is not associated with a mosque (daily prayers are not offered) then it should only be titled as Shrine. If a shrine is located within a mosque then it may be titled mosque. It is my thinking. Nannadeem (talk) 19:07, 30 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Why change of illustration file

[edit]

The other file was more representative while this one looks chaotic and undistinct. I expected to find a debate here, but nothing suggests any kind of reasoning behind this change. 190.16.115.133 (talk) 06:20, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
