Incomplete renaming

[edit]

The portal is currently broken, as the portal and some of its subpages were moved to Portal:Latin music and then the portal was moved back to Portal:Latin America music. For example Portal:Latin music/Selected song is showing red links. Pages named Latin America music Pages named Latin music

This needs sorting out properly once the name has been agreed. The article has been at Latin American music since 2008. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:34, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Moxy is already taking care of it. Erick (talk) 09:07, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've waded in as well. I've fixed all (?) the links within these portal pages with AWB, and have requested admin help to move all the Pages named Latin music to "Latin American music". The {{db-move}} tags currently make the portal page look a mess, but hopefully they won't be there for long. -- John of Reading (talk) 09:21, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize for the mishap. Erick (talk) 09:36, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No worries! I think we're done here; and thanks, Fuhghettaboutit, for doing those moves. -- John of Reading (talk) 14:51, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Anytime!--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 19:46, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

The bot has just wiped out Portal:Latin American music/Featured content - it seems there are no featured/good articles in the narrow categories Category:Top-importance Latin American music articles, etc. One possible fix is to display the featured/good articles from the wider categories Category:Top-importance Latin music articles, etc, instead. Ideas, anyone? -- John of Reading (talk) 08:13, 15 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

We should just move the portal to "Latin American music" ,,this was tried before but was not done properly...I vote to move!! -- Moxy (talk) 18:12, 15 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
@Moxy: The portal is currently named "Latin American music" -- John of Reading (talk) 20:25, 15 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
LOL oops ...I mean Latin music as per what the project members decided to do with the project. -- Moxy (talk) 01:48, 16 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: move the page, per the discussion below. Dekimasuよ! 17:01, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Portal:Latin American musicPortal:Latin music – In mid-2012, the Latin American music task force was changed to the Latin music project to cover "Latin music" as a music genre rather than simply a regional music project. The major reason for this was because of the complicated and different meanings of "Latin music" and so that artists who are considered Latin artist but aren't Hispanic or Latino can be covered too. Moxy created the portal back when the project started as a task force for Latin American music. I tried moving it to a new name last year, but it ended up causing red pages to appear and was moved back to "Portal:Latin American music". I need this portal and all of its subpages renamed to "Portal:Latin music" to match the project's current scope. The portal will be based on Latin music (genre) rather than Latin American music. --Relisted. Dekimasuよ! 00:54, 31 October 2014 (UTC) Erick (talk) 18:15, 21 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak Oppose I think a new portal should be created for Latin Music, while this portal continues to function for Latin American music. Latin American music and Latin music (genre) are separate articles, so we can have separate portals as well. -- 67.70.35.44 (talk) 01:16, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • Thing is, this portal was created back when the Latin music project was just the Latin American taskforce. This portal itself would need to a huge revamp to remove non Latin American music material. For example, Enrique Iglesias's songs and Alejandro Sanz's biography (they're from Spain, which is not a Latin American country). Not only that but it has content that is for the defunct Latin American music task force "Latin American music WikiProject" and "Featured content". Besides, I was pretty much the only editor after Moxy helped created it the portal for us at what was the task force. I don't mind if a separate portal exists for Latin American music, but like I said, it would need a huge revamp and I don't really want to start from scratch recreate a new portal. The assets are already here so I don't need to start all over again, I would just have to make swift updates on the portal. Erick (talk) 04:09, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support reflects reality of articles. In ictu oculi (talk) 16:14, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Relisting--it would be good to hear from some of the people in the WikiProject. Dekimasuよ! 00:54, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • Dekimasu Which one? Latin America or Latin music? Latin America project is pretty much inactive and not once have they ever cared about the Latin music when it was just a task force. Erick (talk) 01:01, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
      • In other words, it would be good to hear from some of the people who might be responsible for updating/take it upon themselves to update the portal content after the move. I'd assume these editors would generally be from the Latin music WikiProject; but in general, it would be good to hear from anyone who would be involved in updating the portal, rather than relying upon the current feedback which is mostly from editors who are active at WP:RM. redirected

[edit]

We cant have the portal not directed to music its the title

Got an email today about the original redirect being move to the main Latin portal over the music one. I have fixed this as I dont see any conversation about redirecting the music portal to the main one. -- Moxy (talk) 13:17, 7 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Moxy: With all due respect and I am grateful that you created the portal which I have now nominated for featured portal, the portal now focuses on "Latin music" as a genre as opposed to simply Latin American music. Even though the two may seem overlap, "Latin music" doesn't solely focus on Latin American music as artists from Spain are included as well and the Latin music industry only covers music in Spanish and Portuguese from Latin America, the Iberian Peninsula, and the US. I do not want to confuse readers with the two terms, so that's why I've redirected them to the Latin American portal in hopes that someone will create a portal for Latin American music. I apologize for any inconvenience. Erick (talk) 13:29, 7 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ok I will take the time and fix the portals on pages when i have time...{{portal}}. We also need to fix the cats associated with all this e,g Category:Latin American music has Latin music musicians, ► Latin musicians by genre ► Latin music groups and so on (6 C, 47 P).-- Moxy (talk) 13:33, 7 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, well at the least, I've already categorized Latin music (genre) by the styles of music by each country it's covered for the time being. I'm hopeful readers don't get confused between the two despite the naming similarities. Thanks again and once again, I apologize for the inconvenience. EDIT: I have an idea, we could make categories like American performers of Latin music a subcat of Latin music musicians. Erick (talk) 13:41, 7 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Notice from the Portals WikiProject

[edit]

WikiProject Portals is back!

The project was rebooted and completely overhauled on April 17th, 2018. Its goals are to revitalize the entire portal system, make building and maintaining portals easier, support the ongoing improvement of portals and the editors dedicated to this, and design the portals of the future.

As of May 2nd, 2018, membership is at 60 editors, and growing. You are welcome to join us.

There are design initiatives for revitalizing the portals system as a whole, and for improving each component of portals. So far, 2 new dynamic components have been developed: Template:Transclude lead excerpt and Template:Transclude random excerpt.

Tools are provided for building and maintaining portals, including automated portals that update themselves in various ways.

And, if you are bored and would like something to occupy your mind, we have a wonderful task list.

From your friendly neighborhood Portals WikiProject. Hope to see you there. Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   07:35, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
