- 1991 - Typhoon Mireille (pictured) hits southwestern Japan with winds of 165 km/h (105 mph). Mireille caused over US$10 billion in damages, making it the second costliest typhoon on record. 64 people were also killed by the typhoon.
- 2006 - Typhoon Xangsane devastates the Philippines after killing 197 people and $118 million damages in that country alone.
- 2024 - Hurricane Helene makes landfall along the Florida panhandle, although its effects continue far inland into the Appalachians. Helene killed 234 people, making it the deadliest hurricane on the American mainland since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
