- 1886 – A major outbreak produced strong tornadoes across the Midwestern United States and Texas. The greatest loss was from an F4 tornado that devastated portions of St. Cloud and Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, killing 72 people and injuring 213. The bottom of the Mississippi River was reportedly "swept dry" as the tornado crossed it.
