Okrouhlice is a municipality and village in Havlíčkův Brod District in the Vysočina Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 1,400 inhabitants.

The villages of Babice, Chlístov, Olešnice and Vadín are administrative parts of Okrouhlice.

Geography

Okrouhlice is located about 6 kilometres (4 mi) west of Havlíčkův Brod and 26 km (16 mi) north of Jihlava. It lies in the Upper Sázava Hills. The highest point is at 477 m (1,565 ft) above sea level. The Sázava River flows through the municipality.

History

The first written mention of Okrouhlice is in a deed of the monastery in Vilémov from 1207. It was founded during the colonization in the second half of the 12th century.[2]

Transport

Okrouhlice is located on the railway line Havlíčkův BrodLedeč nad Sázavou.[5]

Sights

The main landmark is the Okrouhlice Castle. Originally it was a Gothic fortress from the 14th century, rebuilt into the simple Renaissance castle. At the end of the 17th century, it was extended by a second wing.[6]
