Morningside is a 2024 Canadian film.
Plot
[edit]Morningside explores the lives of seven diverse characters who collide at Scarborough's Morningside Community Centre as they navigate the challenges of relationships, societal struggles, and the looming threat of gentrification.[1] Through this lens, the film highlights themes of resilience, heritage, and the fight to preserve a tight-knit community in Toronto's east end.[2]
The film premiered at the 2024 Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival,[3] and was subsequently screened at the ReelWorld Film Festival and the [4] St. Louis International Film Festival.[5]
Production
[edit]Director Ron Dias and producer Joanne Jansen, co-founders of Ron & Aussie, aim to authentically portray the vibrancy and resilience of Scarborough's communities through Morningside. “Our commitment to reshaping the narrative and authentically portraying the resilience of the Scarborough community remains steadfast within Morningside,” Dias stated. “Our aim is to craft a film that not only entertains but also serves as a poignant reflection of diverse voices and experiences.”[2]
The film is funded through private investors and AMC Networks' streaming platform, AllBlk, which will handle U.S. distribution.[2]
