Market Place is the original market square of the town of Wragby in Lincolnshire, England.[1] It is the original centre of the town and was granted a market charter in 1285. The old market place is now in use as a car park and occasional market fair. Some of the buildings in the square are listed buildings. The nearby Grade II listed All Saints Church lies directly to the east of the Market Place on Church Street.

History

[edit]
Market Place in 2014

The town was granted a charter to hold a market in 1285[2] and this became the main trading and economic hub of the then-village of Wragby.[3] It continued to see increase popularity between the 15th and 16th centuries.[4] The town expanded around the market place. Some of the buildings saw renovations between the 18th and 19th centuries. The layout has remained largely the same.

Present day

[edit]

The market place is now mostly used for car parking and occasional market events. The nearby Adam and Eve Pub mostly holds the markets of Wragby on its car park.[5] The town centre is also designated as a conservation area.[6]
