Manyavar is a men's ethnic wear brand founded in India by entrepreneur Ravi Modi in 1999 under his company Vedanta Fashion.[1] Manyavar offers sherwanis, kurtas and Indo-western clothing for men. The brand started with a 150 square foot store in Kolkata[2] and has now expanded to over 570 stores in 180 cities in India and abroad.[3]

History

[edit]

Manyavar started supplying to individual multi-brand outlets (MBO) in 2001.[1] However in 2008, a second exclusive brand outlet store was launched as a result of lower real estate prices that happened due to the economic recession. Since then the brand has opened an average of two stores every week. In 2012, the brand opened its 200th store in Delhi spanning 21,000 square feet.[4] In 2014, Manyavar opened its second largest store at 16,000 sq ft in Lower Parel, Mumbai.

Marketing

[edit]

Manyavar was the principal sponsor of four teams in the Indian Premier League in 2018: Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Daredevils, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals. Key players from each season of these teams were seen wearing Manyavar's clothes for the advertisements. The promotion through IPL has benefited Manyavar in terms of increased awareness among public.[5]

Manyavar was also the title sponsor of the Bangladesh Football League for the 2014–2015 season.[6]

Philanthropy

[edit]

Manas, a foundation started by Ravi Modi is a social organization that performs heart surgeries for the less privileged.[4] The organization helps run several schools through Ekal as well as supports the tribal community by providing medical and financial relief.
