Kavalerovo (Russian: Кавалерово) is an urban-type settlement (also known as a urban locality) and the administrative center of Kavalerovsky District of Primorsky Krai, Russia. The name comes from the settler, Calvary of the Cross of St. George Fedor Dmitrievch Popolitov (Russian: Фёдор Дмитриевич Пополитов).[1]
Geography
[edit]Located in the valley of the river Zerkalnoi (Russian: Зелькальной), the river Kavalerovka (Russian: Кавалеровка) flows through the locality. Connected via road to the cities Dalnegorsk, Arsenyev and the urban locality Olga.
History
[edit]Founded in 1910 by Fedorom Dmitrievichem Popolitovim[2], Cross of St. George, native Voronezh Governoratе, which is how the locality got its name. Status of a urban locality from 1950.
Economics
[edit]The economics of the region in the soviet era was driven by a mining factory; Khructalnensky Gorno-Obogatitelni Kombinat (Meaning: "Tin mining and processing plant", Russian: Хрустальненский горно-обогатительный комбинат), which mined and processed the tin. The plant had 6 mines ("Hructalny", "Sentralny", "Cilinsky", "Vicokogorsky", "Lubileiny", "Arsenyevsky") and 3 refining factories (SOV or OV №1 — Fabrichny, OV №2 — Rudny, OV №3 — Vicokogorck). Now the plant is closed. There were also a forestry and autorepair factories.
Today the economy of the region is subsidized and is driven by the logging industry.
Transport
[edit]Kavalerovo is located on the federal route 05H-100 (before A 181) on which are located the settlements Ocinovka — Rudnaia wharf.
The main transport between regions of the Primorsky Krai are intercity bus routes. From the bus station of Kavalerovo there is daily bus service to Dalnegorsk, Arsenyev, Olga, Spassk-Dalny, Vladivostok, Khabarovsk.
The settlement has its own airport. Everyday there are daily flights on the DHC-6 Twin Otter on the route Vladivostok to Kavalerovo to Vladivostok. Since the 2nd of July, 2015 the route Kavalerovo to Khabarovck is resumed. All flights are done by the company Aurora. Before the 1990s flights were flown on the Yak-40 to Vladivostok, An-2 to Terney and Plastun. The aerodrome is also used for air medical services.
