John Ken Nuzzo (Japanese: ジョン・健・ヌッツォ) is an American tenor of Japanese origin.[1]

Biography

Nuzzo was born in Tokyo to a Japanese mother and an American father. Nuzzo was involved in theater in middle school, and attended an international high school. While in high school, Don Campbell urged him to join the Boys' Chorus.[citation needed]

After high school, Nuzzo moved to the United States and attended Chapman University in California. Initially enrolling as a business major, Nuzzo became interested in pursuing a career in music in his third year.[2]

In 1997, he won first prize in a Japanese singing competition named the Japan Vocal Competition. The following year, he won the Japan round of the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna, which led to an opportunity to perform with the Vienna State Opera.[2]

In 2011, he sang in Puccini's La Bohème at Anchorage Opera house. In March of that year, the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami hit Japan. Nuzzo was drafted by TV stations to provide voice recordings for transit systems in light of the disaster.[2]
