Isak Andic Ermay (born 1953) is a Spanish billionaire businessman, the founder and largest shareholder in the clothing retail chain Mango.

Biography

[edit]

Born to a Sephardic Jewish family in Istanbul, Turkey,[2][3][4] Andic's family emigrated from Turkey to Barcelona, Spain in 1969[2] where he and his brother Nahman began selling hand-embroidered T-shirts[3] and clogs.[2] They opened shops in Barcelona and Madrid, first selling their own brand (Isak jeans) and then stocking other brands.[3] In 1984, he joined with fellow entrepreneur Enric Cusí and his brother and re-denominated all their stores under the name Mango.[2][3] Andic chose the name "Mango" after tasting the fruit on a trip to the Philippines.[2]

In 2006, Andic was appointed the director of Banco Sabadell[2] and in 2012, he became its single largest shareholder with a 7% ownership interest.[5]

According to Forbes, Andic's net worth as of November 2023 was 2.7 billion, making him the richest person in Catalonia.[6] In 2010, he was the 32nd richest Jew in the world, immediately behind David Geffen.[7]

Personal life

[edit]

Andic is divorced from Neus Raig Tarragó with whom he has three children:[2][8] Jonathan Andic [es] (born 1981) who was named his successor in 2012;[2][3][8] Judith Andic (born 1984), who also works for Mango; and Sarah Andic (born 1997).[2][8] Also, he had a relationship with the Catalan stylist Zenaida Bufill Comadrán.[9] Andic lives in Barcelona.[1]

Isak Andic is a member of IESE's International Advisory Board (IAB).[10]

[edit]

The co-founder and chairman of the Mango chain, Isak Andic, was awarded the Kingdom of Spain Award for Business Excellence for his contribution to Spain's economic and social development.[11]
