Hygromiidae is a taxonomic family of small to medium-sized air-breathing land snails, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the superfamily Helicoidea.[1]

Anatomy

[edit]

Some snails in genera within this family create and use love darts as part of their courtship and mating behavior.

In this family, the number of haploid chromosomes lies between 26 and 30 (according to the values in this table).[2]

Taxonomy

[edit]

The family Hygromiidae consists of the following subfamilies (according to the taxonomy of the Gastropoda by Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005):[3]
