The Hohola Mosque is a Sunni Islam mosque in the National Capital District of Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. It is the first mosque in the country.
History
[edit]The construction of the mosque originated in 2001 when the government donated a piece of land to a local Islamic society.[1] The building construction started in 2004 and was completed in 2007,[2] and was the first mosque established in the country.[1] Much of the mosque funding came from Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.[3] In 2018, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad visited the mosque after attending the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) conference.[1]
