Gerila (Kurdish: گەریلا, romanized: Gerîla) is a term for Kurdish leftist militants, mainly the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK), or groups close to them. Gerilas are mainly active against Turkey.[1] Gerilas are also known for their recruitment of both women and men. Gerilas adhere to democratic confederalism.[2][3]
The term Gerila was initially used to refer to one of the People's Defence Forces units, however Gerila later became a name for People's Defence Forces in general.[4]
The PKK operations are broadcast on their internet channel, Gerila TV.[5]
