This is an image from the Yale University Art Gallery collections. According to the Yale University Art Gallery site, the depicted 2-dimensional work is believed to be the public domain, and the gallery's online photographs of such works are considered "open access materials", which "anyone may use … without further application, authorization, or fees due to the Gallery or to Yale." They specify "Photo credit: Yale University Art Gallery"; presumably this credit cannot be mandatory for a faithful reproduction of a two-dimensional work in the public domain, but would be courtesy.
In many jurisdictions, faithful reproductions of two-dimensional public domain works of art are not copyrightable. The Wikimedia Foundation's position is that these works are not copyrightable in the United States (see Commons:Reuse of PD-Art photographs). In these jurisdictions, this work is actually in the public domain and the requirements of the digital reproduction's license are not compulsory.
