Natalie Marie Murray (née LaRue; born December 28, 1983 – died December 4, 2015) was an American singer and songwriter from Nashville, Tennessee. She became known as part of the band LaRue, a sibling duo with her brother Phillip LaRue, releasing four studio albums. In addition to her work with LaRue, Murray pursued a solo career, releasing the EP even now in 2012.

Early life

[edit]

Natalie LaRue was born to Paul William LaRue and Carolynn Marie LaRue (née Nesbitt) in Nashville, Tennessee. She grew up in a musical household, alongside her older brother Phillip and two younger twin sisters. LaRue’s musical journey began early, participating in church choirs as a child. By the age of 11, she and her brother Phillip co-wrote their first song, setting the foundation for their future career as a duo.

Career

[edit]

When she was 14, Natalie LaRue and her brother Phillip signed a record deal as a duo with Reunion Records under the Provident Music Group. Their debut album, LaRue, was released in 2000 and featured 11 original tracks they had co-written.

In 2001, the siblings released a second album, Transparent. The album introduced new themes and a rock-influenced sound, featuring tracks like the alternative/pop song Jaded (about changing relationships), the electro ballad Fallen For You (a love song), and Brianna's Song (written for their sister who had cerebral palsy).

In 2002, they released their third album, Reaching. The album featured songs like OK to Cry, a song about grieving amidst hope, and Summertime, a song about longing for a soul mate as well as addressing teen issues.

Personal life

[edit]

In 2003, Natalie LaRue married Rob Murray, a performer from South Africa whom she had met at a music festival the previous year. That same year, they welcomed their first son, Noah, followed by three daughters: Ella, Viola, and Adia.

Also in 2003, Natalie and her brother Phillip ended their musical partnership, bringing their collaboration as the band LaRue to a close.

Return to music

[edit]

In 2012, after several years as a full-time parent, Natalie recorded and released the EP Even Now, produced by Don Chaffer from the band Waterdeep.[1]
