History

[edit]

Espino was in Spain's gazetteers[6] until Puerto Rico was ceded by Spain in the aftermath of the Spanish–American War under the terms of the Treaty of Paris of 1898 and became an unincorporated territory of the United States. In 1899, the United States Department of War conducted a census of Puerto Rico finding that the combined population of Espino, Cidra and Carreras barrios was 1,281.[7]

The types of sectores may vary, from normally sector to urbanización to reparto to barriada to residencial, among others.[14][15][16]

The following sectors are in Espino barrio:[17]

Carretera 109, Parcelas de Josefa, Sector Solares Lorenzo Rivera, Sector Valle Hermoso, and Urbanización Alturas de Añasco.
