Elana Pirtle-Guiney is a member of Portland City Council from District 2 after being elected along with Sameer Kanal and Dan Ryan in the 2024 election. Pirtle-Guiney is one of the twelve inaugural members of Portland's new expanded city council, following Portland's switch from a city commission government to a mayor–council government.
She was elected by her fellow Portland City Council members to be the first council president at the group's first meeting on January 2, 2025, winning a majority in the tenth round of voting.[1] Tiffany Koyama Lane was selected as the council vice president.
Education
[edit]Pirtle-Guiney earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in international affairs from Lewis & Clark College.[2]
Career
[edit]Pirtle-Guiney has worked for the AFL-CIO.[3]
On January 2nd, 2025, Pirtle-Guiney was selected in a 7-5 vote of the Portland City Council to become the first person ever to serve in the newly created role of Council President, with Tiffany Koyama Lane selected to serve as council Vice President.[4]
