Zand Hanuman is a historic and religious site located near Jambughoda in the Panchmahal district of the state of Gujarat, India. It lies within the Jambughoda Wildlife Sanctuary and is known for its ancient Hanuman temple, significant legends, and historic structures linked to the Pandavas.
History and Significance
[edit][citation needed] The Zand Hanuman temple is home to sculptures and artifacts that date back more than 500 years. The primary attraction is a 21-foot-tall uninterrupted statue of Hanumanji, carved from a single stone. This unique statue features Shani Dev (Saturn deity) depicted under Hanumanji's feet, symbolizing protection from Shani's influence.
Local Legends: According to local folklore, the Pandavas from the Mahabharata epic stayed here during their exile. Two notable historic remnants – Bhima's Stone Crusher and Arjuna's Well – are believed to be from that time.[citation needed] It is said that Arjuna created the well for Draupadi by shooting an arrow into the ground to draw water. Bhima’s stone crusher, used to grind grains, has a circumference of around five feet, and monkeys are often seen around this site.
Cultural Practices
[edit]On Hanuman Jayanti, thousands of devotees gather here to pay homage to Lord Hanuman. This sacred site is believed to bestow blessings, strength, and protection from obstacles to those who visit.[citation needed]
