William L. Apthorp (August 31, 1837 - January 24, 1879) served as Secretary of the Florida Senate. He served as an officer in the United States Colored Troops before settling in Tallahassee, Florida. He later moved to New Jersey.[1]
He graduated from Amherst College class of 1859.[2]
He patented an improvement on the protractor and parallel ruler.[3]

He directed the Tallahassee Singing School at a methodist church in Tallahassee. He was married to Charlotte C. Apthorp.

He weote about Montgomery's raids, defending them, and his own service as an officer commanding Black soldiers in Florida in the St. Johns River and around Hilton Head.[6]
