Violet Parrish Chappell (August 4, 1930 – September 16, 2018) was an Archaeologist consultant and educator of Kashaya Pomo descent. Working decades to preserve Kashaya art, culture, and knowledge, she taught at reservation schools, as well as schools across Northern California to keep the traditions, history, and values of the Kashaya Pomo alive for future generations. Early Life
[edit]Born in the Mendocino Coast Settlement of Manchester, Violet Parrish Chappell's mother was born from the Kashaya Pomo, and her father the Point-Arena Central Pomo/ Boya tribe. Violet Parrish Chappell herself grew up speaking the languages of both the Kashaya Pomo and the Point Arena Pomo. [1]
Education
[edit]Violet Parrish Chappell momentarily left the Kashaya Pomo reservation to earn her degree in early childhood education at the university known as today as San Jose State University. [1]
