- Comment: As already mentioned, he does not meet WP:NPROF. It will be some time before he does, unless he received a major awards such as FRS. Ldm1954 (talk) 22:04, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- Comment: Well written article, but the subject doesn't appear to meet WP:NACADEMIC. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 04:53, 26 September 2024 (UTC)

Thomas Lawrence Rodgers is a British chartered chemical engineer and a Reader in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Manchester.[2]. His research is based on chemical engineering education and teaching development, specifically on how students learn during laboratory classes, focusing on how they prepare and how they interact with teaching materials as well as their engagement with rich media and online flexible learning interactive materials [3]. He is also involved with research on mixing and the scale-up of formulated product manufacturing [4]
Education
[edit]Thomas completed his Master of Engineering in Chemical Engineering with Chemistry degree at UMIST in 2007.[1]. Upon graduation, he read his Doctor of Philosophy degree at the University of Manchester on Multiple-Scale Approach to Understanding Formulated Product Production and obtained his PhD in 2011 [5]
Research and career
[edit]Thomas completed his postdoctoral research at Durham University under the supervision of Prof. Mark Wilson and Prof Tom McLeish. His work focused on protein allostery.[6]. In 2013, he joined the University of Manchester as a lecturer in Chemical Engineering and was later promoted to the position of Senior Lecturer in 2017 and then Reader in 2022 [2][3]. From 2019 to 2020 Dr Rodgers was the discipline head of education for chemical engineering at the University of Manchester [7]
From 2015 to 2018, Thomas was a member of EPSRC Early Career Manufacturing Forum.[8] linking with EPSRC manufacturing policy and strategy. His research on manufacturing focuses on mixing and electrical resistance tomography [4][9]
Thomas’s research is currently based on chemical engineering education thus he is a member of the IChemE’s Education Special Interest group committee.[10] and has published articles in The Chemical Engineer [11] and Times Higher Education Campus [12] amongst many others [13]
In 2024 he was made a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers.[1]
Notable work
[edit]Rodgers developed the Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) training programme for the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Manchester with colleague Jenny Slaughter.[14][15]. He has then grown this to produce a peer mentored route for GTA recognition [16]
Thomas is the developer of Graphical Chemical Engineering Design [17][18]. This is on online resource of interactive graphs that can be used for chemical engineering unit operations. It is freely available for anyone to use and is currently used for teaching a a number of universities around the world.
