Submission declined on 12 August 2023 by CNMall41 (talk). The information in this page is already listed in the Elxsi page. I also agree there is not enough information to warrant a separate page since a summary can be placed in the Tata Group page. In addition, I would recommend removing the industry awards listed as that tends to be promotional. Declined by CNMall41 14 months ago. |

Corporate notability is based on what independent reliable sources have written about the subject. Not every business corporation is notable, and this draft does not establish corporate notability. Tata Elxsi is a publicly listed company within the Tata Group, headquartered in Bangalore, India. The company specializes in providing design, engineering, testing, and system integration services to various industries, including automotive, media, broadcast, telecommunication, medical devices, and pharmaceutical. Tata Elxsi has a global presence, with operations in 35 locations across 15 countries[2].
Tata Elxsi gained recognition for its financial performance, with the stock delivering a return of over 200% in the fiscal year 2021-2022 on both the NSE and the BSE[3].
History
[edit]1985-1989
[edit]The partnership between Elxsi and the Tata Group aimed to manufacture computers in India due to strict import regulations pre-economic liberalization. However, by 1989, when the manufacturing license was obtained, Elxsi had ceased operations in Silicon Valley. Tata Elxsi India then assumed the responsibility of supporting Elxsi's global customer base, maintaining the Tata Elxsi name[4].
1989-2002
[edit]Tata Elxsi was incorporated on March 30, 1989, as a public limited company[5]. Following economic liberalization in India in 1993, the company became a distributor and value-added reseller for Silicon Graphics and established its first software development center in Whitefield, Bangalore. In 1996, Tata Elxsi shifted its focus to providing embedded product design and development services. F.C. Kohli, the first CEO of Tata Consultancy Services, served as the Chairman of the Board until 1999 and remained on the board until 2005[6] However, he continued to be on the board until 2005.[7].
2002-2012
[edit]In 2002, Madhukar Dev was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Tata Elxsi[8]. The company expanded into the visual computing sector during this time, establishing a Visual Computing Lab (VCL) to meet the increasing demand for visual effects in the Indian film industry. Notable VFX industry veterans Joel Hynek, Tricia Ashford, and Treva Blue joined Tata Elxsi in 2009 to develop a new VFX studio in Santa Monica, California[9][10].
2012-2019
[edit]In 2012, Tata Elxsi restructured its embedded product design business into three verticals: Automotive, Media, and Communication, to better align with the industries it served[11]. This reorganization led to collaborations with companies such as Ford, Jaguar Land Rover, Mahindra & Mahindra, Nissan, Panasonic, Comcast, and Motorola[12]. In 2017, Tata Elxsi made headlines as the first Indian company to unveil autonomous car technology and sought permission to test it in Bangalore[13]. Additionally, the company contributed to India's space exploration efforts by developing data control hardware for the Mangalyaan, India's first Mars Orbiter Mission[14].
2019-Present
[edit]Following Madhukar Dev's retirement in 2019, Manoj Raghavan was appointed as CEO and MD of Tata Elxsi[15]. In 2019, Tata Motors announced a partnership with Tata Elxsi to develop a connected vehicle platform[16]. By January 2023, this platform was reportedly used in over 500,000 cars[17]. In 2023, ISRO collaborated with Tata Elxsi to develop Crew Module Recovery Models for the Gaganyaan mission[18]. Additionally, in June 2023, Tata Elxsi inaugurated an innovation hub in Troy, Michigan, to expand its North American presence[19].
