Tal Lazar (born 20 May, 1979) is an Israeli-American filmmaker and educator. He has served on the faculty of institutions such as The American Film Institute Conservatory.[1][2], Columbia University School of the Arts[3], Berklee College of Music[4] and Sundance Institute's online platform[5].
Lazar is an advisor to authors on the subject of filmmaking[6][7] and his expertise in cinematography technology and visual storytelling is highlighted in interviews online[8][9][10][11][12][13].
Filmmaking Career
[edit]Lazar is a graduate of the American Film Institute Conservatory’s cinematography program [14]. Following his graduation, Lazar worked with notable filmmakers such as Nicole Conn on romantic drama Elena Undone[15] and Isaac Florentine on his action thriller Close Range[16]. In Vietnam, Lazar collaborated with Vietnamese-American writer and director Charlie Nguyễn, filming local box office hit[17] De Mai tinh 2 and action thriller Bụi đời Chợ Lớn[18].
In 2016, Lazar founded[19] New York based production studio MiLa Media. MiLa Media's films include The Other Story[20], directed by Avi Nesher, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival[21], and The New Group Theater’s Waiting For Godot[22], starring Ethan Hawke and John Leguizamo. As a sales agent, Lazar sold Every Time I Die, a film in which he served also as a lead-producer and cinematographer[23], and The Unborn, a film which he directed[24].

Teaching Career
[edit]After earning his MFA[14] at the American Film Institute Conservatory, Lazar was invited to join its faculty[25][26]. While teaching at AFI, Lazar developed Digital Cinematography Fundamentals[27] for Berklee College of Music, a course offered on its online platform.
In 2018, Lazar joined the faculties of Columbia University’s School of the Arts[3] and The City College of New York’s Media Communication Arts programs[28]. Lazar's courses are also offered online in English[29][30], French[31] and Chinese][32].
Lazar visits various other schools as a guest speaker, including Yanjing Institute of Technology Media College in Beijing[33], and speaks at conventions, such as the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Accreditation Resource Conference[34]
