Stephen Alan Crystal (born November 9, 1965) is an American attorney, executive, investor, and advisor with over three decades of experience in the global gambling industry. He has been involved in various roles, including co-founding Barrick Gaming Corporation, which owned multiple hotel-casinos in downtown Las Vegas, leading SCCG Management, and serving as a legal and strategic advisor in casino and gaming technology ventures. Crystal's work spans project finance, gaming technology, and sports betting, with notable contributions to the development of U.S. gaming markets and international expansions.[1]
Early Life and Education
[edit]Stephen Crystal earned his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College in 1987 and his Juris Doctor from American University in 1992. His educational background provided the foundation for his career in law and gaming.
Political Career
[edit]In 1986, Crystal became one of the youngest State Representatives in New Hampshire, representing Hanover. During his tenure, he served on the state’s Energy Committee and authored legislation, including the Aid to Blind Act and Motor Voter. Crystal later contributed to local, state, and national political campaigns, working with figures such as Michael Dukakis, Gary Hart, and Bill Clinton.
Professional Career
[edit]Crystal began his legal career as a land-use attorney in Kansas City, Missouri, representing Las Vegas-based gaming companies in riverboat development projects. He subsequently joined the law firm Armstrong Teasdale, where he worked for 12 years, specializing in gaming law and project development. Recognized by Best Lawyers in America as a leading gaming attorney, Crystal advised municipalities and private entities on regulatory and development matters.
In 2004, Crystal co-founded Barrick Gaming Corporation, acquiring multiple hotel casinos in downtown Las Vegas, including properties such as the Gold Spike, Plaza, Las Vegas Club, and The Western. [2] [3] Afterward, he shifted his focus to investments in gaming technology, working with companies such as DigiDeal Corporation and Tablemax, Inc. He also served as CEO and Chairman of Tablemax, Inc. from 2005 to 2009.
As the founder and principal of SCCG Management, Crystal has been instrumental in facilitating over $3 billion in project finance and mergers and acquisitions.[4][5] His work includes partnerships with prominent sports teams such as the Cincinnati Bengals and Vegas Golden Knights. Crystal has also played a significant role in launching sports betting operations for tribal casinos [6] across the United States.
Current Role
[edit]Under Crystal's leadership, SCCG Management operates globally, focusing on iGaming, sports wagering[7][8], tribal gaming, and entertainment.[9] With offices in North America, Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Europe, SCCG provides strategic advisory and product distribution services.[10][11][12] Crystal frequently speaks at international gaming conferences and consults on emerging market trends.
