History
[edit]Redcliffe Chess Club (RCC) was founded in 1960; however, had been founded as a breakoff of a previous club in Brisbane founded in 1922. After the development of the Sandgate Bridge, the Chess Club was officially established in 1960. The RCC's initial founders, Mike Dyer and Fred Ward had held all the positions, though overtime began transferring them as more members joined. The RCC's council would meet monthly and had led to the creation of Inter-school chess in Brisbane. In 1967, the well-known Peninsular open was held for the first time, as requested by the then-Redcliffe mayor Mr Kroll, to be held in the RSL Hall in Redcliffe and has been held every year since.
