Rajendra Kothari is a Canadian business executive and philanthropist, who has contributions to the financial sector and his commitments to community service. He has done his CPA & CA in Canada & MBA from Harvard Business School.
Professional Career
[edit]With over 40 years of professional experience spanning Canada, the UK, and India, Kothari has held significant positions in the financial industry. He served as Vice Chair and Managing Partner for the Greater Toronto Area at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) Canada, where he was also the National Practice Leader for the Asset & Wealth Management industry.
Philanthropic Endeavors
[edit]Raj's philanthropic efforts are in the healthcare sector. He has been a member of the UHN Foundation Board since 2005, serving as Chair from 2018 to 2024. During his tenure, he played a important role in fundraising initiatives, including chairing the 'Diwali – A Night to Shine' event for nine years, which raised over $12 million in support of various causes at the University Health Network (UHN), such as the Toronto General Hospital Research Institute, emergency care, cardiac care, diabetes, transplant, vision, neuroscience, and rehabilitation research.
In addition to his work with UHN, Raj has been involved with numerous cultural and educational institutions. He has served on the boards of the Aga Khan Museum, Soulpepper Theatre Company, the Ontario Arts Foundation, and the Stratford Festival of Canada. His leadership roles have included serving as President of the Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce and chairing the Stratford Shakespeare Festival Endowment Foundation.
Recent Initiatives
[edit]In 2024, Raj joined the campaign cabinet for UHN Foundation's $300 million fundraising effort to support the construction of a new state-of-the-art patient and surgical tower at Toronto Western Hospital. This $1.1 billion project aims to revolutionize surgical care, featuring 15 storeys with advanced operating rooms and private patient rooms, enhancing UHN's capacity to deliver cutting-edge medical services.
