The 1st model of R2-D2 model used in the 1st star wars film was created by a English company, Bridgnorth Models, located in the town of Bridgnorth in the county of Shropshire. At the direction of special effects director Robert Blalack, who received the Academy Award in 1978 for Best Visual Effects.
