Patta History is a Sri Lankan animated web series that presents historical narratives through animation. Created by Ruwani Hettiarachchi, Geeshan Bandara, and Duval Weerakoon, the series launched in November 2020.[1] The show combines educational content with animated storytelling to explore Sri Lankan history from ancient times to the modern era, with content available in English, Sinhala, and Tamil.
History
[edit]The concept for Patta History emerged when its creators identified a gap in accessible historical content about Sri Lanka. The project was inspired by the YouTube channel Extra History and the creators' visit to the Dachau concentration camp in Germany in April 2019, where they observed Germany's approach to confronting historical narratives.[2]
Production
[edit]The series is produced by The Nescius animation studio under director Duval Weerakoon, with distribution and IP rights held by PH Media (Pvt) Ltd.[3] Episodes are produced using a combination of frame-by-frame and vector animation techniques, with soundtracks composed by Shamika Makalanda. The production process involves extensive research and fact-checking before scripts are finalized.[4]
