Patrizia Longo is an Italian American political theorist and professor. Her areas of study include political theory, women and politics, feminist theory, food politics, human rights, European politics, and immigration issues.[1][2]
Education
[edit]In 1980, Longo received her B.A. in Languages (Italian, English, and German) from Scuola Superiore per Interpreti e Traduttori in Florence, Italy. Later, she received another Bachelors Degree in the Arts from the University of Pennsylvania in European History and Political Science in 1983. The following year, in 1984, Longo attained her Master's Degree in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley and her Ph.D. in Political Science five years later in 1989 from the same institution.[1]
At each step of her educational journey, Longo wrote and successfully defended a series of theses and dissertations:
B.A. Thesis in English from Scuola Superiore per Interpreti e Traduttori: "Ethical Implications of Euthanasia" (Chair: Jeannine Matthias (Florence, Italy)).[2]
B.A. Thesis in German from Scuola Superiore per Interpreti e Traduttori: "Ludwig Feurbach als Mittler zwischen Hegel und Marx" (Chair: Hans Wildt (Florence, Italy)).[2]
B.A. Thesis in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania: "The Concept of Praxis in German Idealism and Marxism" (Chair: Mihailo Markovic).[2]
M.A. Thesis in Political Science at University of California, Berkeley: "Marxist Methodology in Gramsci" (Chair: Paul Thomas).[2]
Ph.D. Dissertation in Political Science at University of California, Berkeley: "The Statue of Glaucus: Rousseau's Political Quest for Authenticity" (Committee: Paul Thomas (chair), Norman Jacobson, Martin Jay).[2]
At the University of California, Berkeley, Longo examined Political Theory, Western European Politics, and Comparative Politics.[2]
Professional Career
[edit]Since 1991, Longo has been a faculty member at Saint Mary's College of California in Moraga, California. Before her tenure at Saint Mary's College, Longo had also taught at California State University, Hayward (now California State University, East Bay), and Columbia College, U.C. Berkeley. In addition, she is a Certified EPA Instructor to train asbestos workers in both the United States and Italy.[1]
Languages
[edit]Longo can understand various languages to a varying capacities. Italian is her first language, having grown up in Italy. She is fluent in English and can read, write, and speak German and French. She is also capable of reading both Spanish and Latin.[2]
