Also, please change the bare links to be formatted like the inline citations (although you don't have to make them inline citations, just make it so they have a title/author if applicable because that would increase your chances). - Comment: YouTube is not a reliable source. There are three citations from YouTube interviews. Most sources do not mention him in depth. Omprakash Mohanty is an Indian music composer, singer, and instrumentalist known for his contributions to Odia music and film. He is recognized for his collaborations with prominent artists and for setting literary works from Odisha to music. He has received multiple awards, including the State Award for Best Music Director and a National Award from Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.[1][2]
Career
[edit]Omprakash Mohanty began his musical education at the age of 10 under Guru Nabin Kishor Patnaik. He later pursued Indian classical music under the guidance of Pt. Khitish Chandra Moitra and learned Odissi vocal music from Pt. Singhari Shyamsundar Kar. At the age of 12, he passed the children's music audition at All India Radio (AIR) and began performing on stage with Prafulla Kar as a singer.[3]
In addition to classical music, Mohanty developed an interest in Western music and learned to play the Spanish guitar. He joined the band of renowned composer Akshay Mohanty and assisted him in various film projects. In 1988, he joined All India Radio, Sambalpur, as a staff music composer. During his time there, he became deeply involved in Sambalpuri folk music, composing numerous songs in the Sambalpuri dialect.[4]
In 1994, he was transferred to AIR Cuttack, where he composed songs for prominent singers such as Pranab Kishore Patnaik, Akshay Mohanty, Sikander Alam, Atish Kumar Majumdar, and Shyamamani Devi. He participated in numerous competitions organized by AIR, earning recognition at the national level.[1]
Mohanty has composed music for films, including his debut in *Bhagya Chakra*, which earned him a state award. He has also composed music inspired by literary works from Odisha, including those by Fakir Mohan, Godabarisha Mishra, Gopabandhu Dash, and Bhima Bhoi. He collaborated with Susmita Das on the album *Mayadarpan*, which brought him significant recognition.
