The Myanmar National Sports Festival is a nation-level sports festival in Myanmar, where sports teams from ministries, regions and states compete. It was held in 1992, 1994, 1997 and 2015. The National Sports Festival was held alongside nation-level student sports festivals.

History

The first National Sports Festival was held in Yangon in 1992. Originally intended to be held every two years, the sports festivals were not held due to difficulties. The third National Sports Festival was held in 1997. The fourth festival was held in 2015 under the U Thein Sein government. However, the sports festivals have not been held since then.

Objectives

  • To achieve the goal of making Myanmar sports world-class through national activities,
  • To understand that promoting sports is protecting the nation,
  • To flourish patriotism and national spirit in doing sports,
  • To encourage the emergence of a new generation of talented and outstanding athletes and to reach the world level,
  • To actively participate and promote the development of sports talents trained with new and modern sports methods,
  • To strengthen the spirit of the Union by strengthening the bond between outstanding athletes throughout the country
