- Comment: Entirely lacks sources except for a cast list; additionally, sources such as IMDB are considered user-generated content and are unreliable. Some reviews of the film could help to establish notability. Beachweak (talk) 15:39, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
Mullick Bari (2009)
Mullickbari is a Bengali drama film released on July 17, 2009, directed by Anirban Chakraborty and co-directed by P.J. Joseph. Produced by the Chitrabani Film Institute, this film was the institute’s first venture into feature-length cinema. The movie explores themes of human relationships and connections through the backdrop of a single house, Mullickbari, which serves as the focal point for three interwoven stories.
Plot
The narrative of Mullickbari is built around three separate yet interconnected stories, each revolving around the tenants who reside in the titular Mullickbari, a house in Kolkata. The constant elements in all the stories are the house, the landlady, and the broker who facilitates the rentals. These stories explore diverse genres, including suspense, drama, and romance:
- The Suspense Thriller:
A mysterious tenant played by Biswajit Chakraborty arrives at Mullickbari. His enigmatic behavior piques the curiosity of the other residents. The plot thickens as his true intentions are slowly revealed, leading to a thrilling climax.
- The Underworld Tale:
This story delves into the lives of two tenants (played by Ritwick Chakraborty and Rimjhim Mitra) who inadvertently get involved in criminal activities. The narrative explores themes of morality, desperation, and redemption.
- The Romantic Comedy:
The final story offers a lighter tone, focusing on the humorous and endearing dynamics between tenants played by Paoli Dam, Kanchan Mullick, Swarnakamal Mitra, and Rrishii Kaushik. It showcases the budding romance and the misunderstandings that come with living in a shared space.

Production

The film was conceived as a tribute to the renowned filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee and draws inspiration from his classic Musafir (1957). However, the stories in Mullickbari are original and adapted to the socio-cultural context of Kolkata.
The film’s score was composed by Chandan Roychoudhury, and its cinematography captured the essence of urban Kolkata. The entire movie was shot in and around the city, focusing on the house as a central character in the narrative.
Reception
Critics praised Mullickbari for its engaging storytelling and innovative structure. The performances of the ensemble cast, particularly those of Biswajit Chakraborty, Ritwick Chakraborty, and Paoli Dam, were widely appreciated. The movie was lauded for its exploration of diverse genres and its ability to weave multiple narratives seamlessly.
However, some critics noted that the pacing of the second story felt slower compared to the other two.
