David Puckett graduated collage with his Bachelors Degree of Music Education from the University of Nebraska. He began teaching as a Texas music educator in 1997. He is currently directing in the Keller Wind Ensemble and is Head director for the KMS bands and BCI band.
ISMS Band
Mr. Puckett started the ISMS band in 2001 and stayed there until he moved to Keller, Texas in 2021. At ISMS he won teacher of the month multiple times and was loved by students and faculty. ISMS is grades 6 through 8 and feeds into the Keller High School. In 2014 the Indian Springs Band was a feature performance group at the Midwest Clinic].
BCI/KMS Bands
Mr. Puckett is currently Head Band director at the BCI and KMS bands. He directs the Keller Middle School Wind Ensemble. BCI is at the 6th grade level and KMS is at the 7th and 8th level. KMS also feeds into Keller High School. BCI meets on an A/B Day rotation of 40-minute homogenous classes and KMS meets every day for 50 minutes and often has before or afterschool rehearsals. The KMS band has three levels, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble. All levels usually win Division I ratings at the Texas UIL Concert & Sight-reading Evaluation then advancing to the TMEA Area Honor Band competition every year they can, and therefore putting a large number of individual students in the position to perform in the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-Region Honor Bands. The KMS Band has been to the Midwest Clinic twice, in 2020 and 2023.
Achievements
Mr. Puckett has multiple awards and recognitions. Some of which are, making it to the state level 3 times with the ISMS band and winning the 2015 TMEA Honor Band competition, recognition from Music’s Mark of Excellence a total of fourteen times under his direction. Mr. Puckett served as chairman of the Texas Band UIL PML Music Selection Committee, has served in multiple offices at the TMEA region level, and currently serves as lead director of the four Keller ISD middle school band programs. He was also a national finalist in Music and Arts National Educator of the year. Mr. Puckett was honored to be the 2019 Georgia Music Educators All-State MS Honor band conductor. He goes to the Midwest Clinic often, the latest of which being in 2023 he led the KMS Wind Ensemble to the Midwest Clinic.
